Ghost Magnet Roach Motel | INVASION will provide multi-sensory sonic interventions in a mainline building in Barrio Logan by playing the site in its entirety both physical and historical. By Invasion we mean we will play whatever history it sits on, and whoever inhabits the building at the moment. By Invasion we mean we will play a serenade to all roaches hidden in the shadows. By Invasion we mean we will shake the entire building for dust to fall. By Invasion we mean we will chat with your ghost to see how you all are doing. By Invasion we mean we will magnetize the entire building reinventing its poles.

Taking part of ART SAN DIEGO ART LABS Program, Ghost Magnet Roach Motel | INVASION will reunite multiple instruments and percussions situated in various places of the building; a visual piece will be destroyed during the invasion.

ABOUT GMRM:

Ghost Magnet Roach Motel (GMRM) is a multidisciplinary group of artists from San Diego and Tijuana that create real-time mixed-media visual-sonic interventions. The collective consists of 4 artists: San Diego artist Tony Cozano (Bossa Nova, Classic, Punk guitarists), Brian Sueda (percussionist), Raphael Barragan (electronic sound artists, percussionist) and Shinpei Takeda (documentary filmmaker, installation artist). The interrelation of their various methodologies and aesthetic foundations come together to inform an auditory manifestation immersed in the memory “ghost” of the space, revealing human desire to connections and disconnections “magnet” speaking to the “roach”-ness of humanity, while creating a temporal performative “motel”—space where their audience can freely interact. GMRM was originally formed in 2005 and has performed at various places in Tijuana including Transmedios (2009), Casa de la Cultura (2009), and Instituto de Cultural de Baja California (2010).
