The collaborative talent of art gallery owner/curator Alana Sills and fine artist/graphic designer Chris Elliman redefine what conventional event production is all about. Alana Sills is an art gallery owner and curator who has a passion for bringing art and community together. For the past twenty years she has had an entrepreneurial spirit, owning two successful businesses, all the while expressing her creative side through catering and party planning. She loves to see people become inspired to express themselves and their creativity. Alana has been titled the “Belle of the Barrio” as her 7000 square foot urban industrial art gallery resides in the now trendy Barrio Logan community of San Diego. Since its inception, Sanctuary Gallery has quickly become the safe haven for all things avant garde.
Sanctuary Gallery has been committed to the nurturing of cutting-edge emerging and mid-career artists who work in a range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, film making, sculpture, jewelry and fashion design. The work exhibited is truly a 21st century celebration of alternative and visionary art.
Alana’s vision of artistic liberation in the community saw no boundaries as every exhibition pushed the limits of what defined conventional art. She partnered with artist Chris Elliman and together the “Connoisseurs of Creativity” are working to bring top-notch events to San Diego that combine art and music/entertainment.
Chris Elliman is a multi-faceted artist and graphic designer who thrives on challenging subject matter and technical illustration. Elliman is a native Californian, born and raised in San Francisco. At the age of 16 Elliman became an entrepreneur, receiving his first commission for art as well as winning various awards. While providing himself with an income through fine art and airbrushing murals, Elliman continued to hone his artistic skills. In 1991, Elliman relocated to San Diego where he became head designer for Daniel Jenkins Designs. He eventually started his own clothing label SNAPT USA, where he produced jaw dropping graphics to the public. Longing to get back to fine art, Elliman sold SNAPT to Japanese Distributers. In order to capture the human form authentically, Elliman studied anatomy for 5 years.
After painting for 20 years, Elliman’s trademark style emerged. His series entitled “The Timing” took hold in the fine art and limited edition arena and was signed by Gamut Control Publishing LLC out of Dallas, Texas. His thought provoking artwork is now collected around the world.
When out of the studio, Elliman can be found airbrush body painting and producing live events throughout Southern California. His body painting business is called XOMPANY, pronounced “company”. This name describes how Elliman blends art and people together by considering the business being good company for anyone and any special event.
